Project Grading Scale

This grading scale is used often in our art class – it is an easy way for students to make sure that they are staying on track and in charge of their grades.  ”CCCW” is written on the back/attached to work with points added up and explained.  Below is the explanation that we have gone over in class together. CREATIVITY/25% – Are you going beyond where I have led you in your artwork?  Are you actively using your imagination?  Can a viewer tell that you’ve put at least a little of yourself/your viewpoint into your work?

COMPOSITION/25% – Have you utilized the art elements and principles in a unique way to arrange/enhance your piece?  Can you describe your piece using the art elements and principles vocabulary correctly?
(*This is often where an even more broken down rubic is categorized with detailed requirements written specifically for each project)

CRAFTSMANSHIP/25% – Have you mastered the materials used?  Have you mastered the techniques that were taught?  Did you take time and care for your piece?  (blood, sweat, tears maybe?)

WORK ETHIC/25% – Did you come into class ready to work during the full duration of the project?  Did you make sure to utilize those around you when you needed help (peers and teacher)?  Did you keep working until your piece was completely the best that it could possibly be?  (taking break every now and then is okay, taking breaks for more than 5 minutes is not okay; trying to get away with doing nothing during 1 or more period is NOT OKAY; BEWARE – this section alone can drop your grade quickly if you are not working in the art room! We’re here to guide you in your development in becoming amazing artists, not teach you how to sleep with your eyes open.)

Being a serious artist does not mean we can’t have fun while working, it just means that you make sure to put time, energy, care, and effort into what you create.
